The Paladin Prestige Class
To some players, the paladin class seems to work much better as a prestige class than as a standard class. If you-as a DM or, with your DM's permission, as a player-prefer this option, make a few small changes in the paladin class to bring it on a par with other prestige classes:
Requirements
To qualify to join the paladin prestige class, a character must fulfil all the
following criteria.

Class Skills and Features
All class skills and features are as described in the Playeras Handbook, with the exception of the level at which abilities are gained.
Notes: I wrote this with the intention of including it in the forthcoming Defenders of the Faith: A Builders Guidebook for Clerics and Paladins, but cut it from that manuscript. The project's creative director felt-rightly, I think-that presenting an alternative vision of the paladin class in a core rulebook was somewhat inappropriate. I modeled the ability and spell progression on the blackguard prestige class. When I presented this to my co-workers for comments, I know that questions were raised about the prerequisites, but I cut the class before trying to implement any suggested changes... so here it is in its raw, unedited form. Pretty straightforward, I know.
